a little bit about what's here

Welcome to my brains dump station. Please don't feel obligated to read it but if you are here it's because you expressed an interest in being here or I just happen to think you're rad and want to include you in our life. Feel free to comment so that I know if anyone is reading! Not that it would stop me from blogging if no one did read, it's just nice to know who is around every once in awhile! I'll try to hit spell check before I post but I make no guarantee's! It's my blog and therefore you will find that I don't censor myself very often, especially when it comes to swear words (I'm working on it). If you don't like what I have to say, feel free to not read. I'm okay with that.

I love being a work from home mom to my one and only child, G. He is a dream that I never thought would come true. It's my goal in my life to raise him to be thoughtful, witty, respectful, gentle, sincere, creative, determined, instinctive, charming, frank, truculent, faithful, reflective, happy, active, bright, ambitious, talented, productive, decisive, kind hearted, friendly, proud, sarcastic, calm, righteous, generous, protective, dynamic, silly, adaptable, brave, honorable, gregarious, funny, fearless, outgoing, magnanimous, confident, cultured, fair and just plain amazing. It's not too tall an order, it's my life's work.

Current events...

Week 22 brings nothing interesting to report. Ed and I took the dogs out for a hike, and it felt so good to breathe in all that fresh air and get my body moving. Poor babybert didn't seem to appreciate it that much as he kept kicking me about as low as he could - but too bad for him I liked it and it felt good on my poor old body. I see many more hikes in my future as it relieved a lot of my hip pain and pubic bone pain.

Almost everything I eat is causing heartburn - but on the recommendation of a couple of very smart baby makers here at work - I bought some Tums Smoothies and that helps a lot. They taste good enough to be considered candy if you ask me! Ed tries to cook things that won't kick up the heartburn but I think he's about given up on that.

I bought a maternity support belt the other day - and it has helped quite a bit. I bought it a little too big and had to jerryrig it with safety pins to get it to fit - but I figure I have a lot of growing to do still so there wasn't any sense in getting one that fit now and not later. This growing thing is hard to gauge!

When I got to work yesterday I had my first baby gift on my desk. Sarah that I work with (who just had a baby of her own) had made me a diaper cake. It was three layers of newborn and size 1 diapers wrapped in little blue and baseball themed receiving blankets. That made my day! I am not expecting a baby shower, so little gifts like that are extra special. When I pulled out one of the newborn diapers I was shocked at how little they are. They were the size of my hand - and I have little hands! Yikes!

Last night iced up pretty good around town. When I got home from work at about 11:15 pm I parked the truck in the driveway and when I was about halfway out of the truck (because it's a monster truck and it's not so easy for me to lug my fat body in and out of it) the truck started to slide down the driveway, with me hanging halfway out of it. Scared the heck out of me and part of my diaper cake (described above) got run over. It's a good thing that the blankets need to be washed before the boy is born anyway! I got some de-icers and threw that on the driveway and about ten minutes later I went out to get the truck back out of the street. Right before I got to the truck door I fell flat on my backside. So, my rear and back hurt most of the night, but not as bad as I thought. It just made a crummy end to an otherwise fine day! :)

So...that's about it for now. I'll post my 22 week picture pretty quick - Ed took it yesterday and I haven't had a chance to look at it. I'm sure you won't see much growth but if you look at my naked belly front the front you can definetly tell I'm not just fat anymore!

OB Appointment

I'm measuring at 21 weeks and a couple of days (fundal that is).

Baby boy's heartbeat was in the mid 140's, which doctor was pleased with.

I got lectured by the doctor because I've gained 18 pounds so far (ouch I knew I had put on some weight but I had no idea it was 18 pounds). He said to eat more fruits and veggies. Ed kept agreeing with the doctor, making it sound as if I eat every hour on the hour, etc....and after my appointment we are walking out to the car and he says to me, "So...Pressbox for lunch?" The Pressbox is a local sports bar (don't worry I managed to skip the Bud Light) which = bar food. I had me some fried mushrooms and Idaho nachos (potato's covered in cheese, bacon bits, sour cream, salsa, etc...). I'm a good little listener huh? Doc said his recommendation is to eat really healthy and splurge once a month. Good idea but a month is a long time - so I'm going to eat really healthy and splurge once a week! Hahaha! It's not like I've been eating crap (well except for the above mentioned lunch) so I'm not going to beat myself up about it.

He did NOT like it when I told him that I had been to a chiropractor for my hips - he almost got a little upset with me about that. He said that I need to be more active and that will help with my pain. I thought that was interesting considering my hips hurt so much that I can hardly walk - but yeah, I'll be more active. Ed has decided we're going to start walking around the neighborhood on our days off and if I can't get that done at least once a day then he's going to make me get on the treadmill when I'm reading chapters. I knew I needed to do this, but it's easier to just not move than to force myself to endure the pain. I'm being a weiner and I need to stop it.

I got a "goody bag" of prenatal stuff including coupons and info on how and where to sign up for classes at the hospital (breastfeeding, childbirth, something called a "maternity social").

The doctor said he delivers all his own babies 95% of the time, so unless I need a c-section I won't be stuck with just some dude who is the on-call OB at the hospital.

I'll have another ultrasound at 35 weeks but that's pretty much it for ultrasounds. That one is to check for any fractures on baby.

And - I now have an appointment with the perinatologist for March (they come up once a month from Salt Lake City) to start doing the leg work to see if we can get an in utero diagnosis of the OI (one way or the other).

All in all, pleased with the appointment. And as usual, pleased with my doctor.

Halfway there already?

Time flies when you're having fun!!!! Looks like this little boy is growing - but he's still sitting pretty high isn't he? I have a checkup next week, and I have a couple of things to discuss with my doctor. I have been having some really good back pain and one butt cheek or another will go numb. Then last weekend my really low abdomen was hurting so so bad and I could barely walk. I went to the chiropractor and he literally popped my hips and I've felt much better. I've been reading about SPD (Symphysis pubis dysfunction) at http://www.plus-size-pregnancy.org/pubicpain.htm and I can't say I'd be surprised that my hips and pubic bones would be a problem for me, with my OI history. So, I'll keep up with the Chiro and see if that helps at all.

Almost halfway there!!!!!

Hhhhhmmmm...........where did THAT come from? I promise it doesn't look like that in real life - even Ed was surprised at how the picture turned out. Don't get me wrong - baby boy is growing but DANG! I was holding back my boobs a little bit and pushing down on the top of my stomach but the belly is definitely on it's way! Last night I felt the baby move on the outside of my stomach - that was AWESOME! Anytime Ed tries to feel the baby he stops moving. Must be that "Oh crap Dad's here!" reaction or something. It won't be much longer and this boy won't have much of a choice - he won't have room to hide.

Sitting at work gets harder and harder every week. I find myself finishing a report or two and then standing up and stretching/walking while I proof them. I've got way too long for that to be affecting me too much this early. I go to night shift in two weeks - so that will be nice. This boy doesn't like getting up early any more than I do! I'm way more of a night owl and I'll be on nights until Sarah (from work) comes back from maternity leave - so that's about another 2.5 months. Baby boy is active during the day - but he's MUCH more active at night. I'm still able to sleep *sort of* on my stomach. I have this long moosh pillow that I just have to use to prop up one hip. I'm sleeping hard too, which is a very nice change. For the last couple of weeks I haven't been able to sleep very well. Now I sleep so hard I don't see/hear/feel Ed get out of bed. I'll enjoy it while I can - trust me. I know it's not going to last the bigger I get.

I'm trying to figure out how to work my school schedule come June, and I only have two options. I can either continue class until about a month AFTER I deliver, and then take a break, or stop class in May and go back in August. What a crummy choice huh? I think I'll have to go with the first option so that when I have to make that transition from being at home to going back to work I won't be in class on top of that as well. I can't stop for too long though - I plan on finishing my Master's a lot faster than I did my Bachelor's!

I hope everyone is well - thanks for stopping by! I'll make sure to post an update after my next OB appointment!

Less than 150 days to go!

Happy 18 weeks to us! I look like a cow...these pictures are magically getting more and more unflattering. I am still carrying what seems awfully high to me - but what do I know? I have no idea how that all happens! This whole thing is pretty cool - chubbiness and all!

Not much new to report this week. Little boy is super active - and I'm LOVING it. He's quieter in the morning and during the day - but as soon as I lay down for bed there is a disco in my uterus. He particularly likes Hostess cup cakes....and try as I might, I find myself having to give in to him. That wakes him up instantly and he tells me hello before quieting down again. My belly button has really been hurting. I haven't been able to find much info on the web that tells me that is or isn't normal, but I'm guessing that it is. My belly button feels weird too - Ed says it looks like it's trying to pop out or something. I don't think we're quite there yet, but something is making it hurt....so we'll just have to wait and see what that is!
