a little bit about what's here

Welcome to my brains dump station. Please don't feel obligated to read it but if you are here it's because you expressed an interest in being here or I just happen to think you're rad and want to include you in our life. Feel free to comment so that I know if anyone is reading! Not that it would stop me from blogging if no one did read, it's just nice to know who is around every once in awhile! I'll try to hit spell check before I post but I make no guarantee's! It's my blog and therefore you will find that I don't censor myself very often, especially when it comes to swear words (I'm working on it). If you don't like what I have to say, feel free to not read. I'm okay with that.

I love being a work from home mom to my one and only child, G. He is a dream that I never thought would come true. It's my goal in my life to raise him to be thoughtful, witty, respectful, gentle, sincere, creative, determined, instinctive, charming, frank, truculent, faithful, reflective, happy, active, bright, ambitious, talented, productive, decisive, kind hearted, friendly, proud, sarcastic, calm, righteous, generous, protective, dynamic, silly, adaptable, brave, honorable, gregarious, funny, fearless, outgoing, magnanimous, confident, cultured, fair and just plain amazing. It's not too tall an order, it's my life's work.

Progress finally!!!

The new carpet went in yesterday - so Ed and I spent a good part of today putting stuff in the nursery! We put together the crib, scrubbed the dresser (we're using the one my Grandpa B made for me years ago), put together a stroller, moved the glider to the nursery, and moved my hope chest (which we're going to turn into a toy box) into the nursery from the garage. Now Ed just has to finish the changing table he's building and Garrett's room will be outfitted with all it's furniture. I still need to get curtains up and then the bedding my Mom is making (camo) will complete the whole thing!!!!

We thought about setting up the co-sleeper but decided that can wait awhile still.

We went and bought some bedding stuff (i.e. mattress pad, sheets) and washed those.

AND - since our bedroom is on the same level we had to put our bedroom back together as well.

Busy busy day. Now I have two homework assignments I need to start. I need a nap from all that work but it's closer to bedtime so a nap would just be silly!

Oh - and my friends cousin, a guy I actually used to work with - is starting to build his photography portfolio so I'm set up to take maternity pictures in about 2 weeks! .

For the first time in awhile - I feel like we're actually getting things DONE!!!

May 11th & 12th!

May 11 - Mother's Day:
Did I pick the right guy to marry or what? Even though I haven't actually had G yet - Ed decided that I qualify for Mother's Day.

This is what he got me:
Hydrotherm Massage
Great for expecting mothers unable to lie on their stomach. Discover a new dimension to the healing art of massage. Relax completely. Embrace total calm. A soft, warm bed of water cradles the curves of your spine. Water-filled hydrothermal cushions that are heated warm your body from head to toe while you enjoy a stress free massage.

There was a nice card to accompany it, a love letter from both my "boys" and some chocolate that Ed claimed Garrett told him I needed. :) Ed also cooked me a great dinner when I got home from work. That man spoils me sometimes!

My Mom, yes the sweetest woman alive, sent me a Moby Wrap from my Amazon registry. Being a mother of four - this woman knows what she is talking about - and she thought it was a great product. It arrived the day before Mother's Day and when I took it out of the package Ed looked at it dumbfounded. He said it looks like a brown baby straight jacket. It is a little complicated at first (for hecks sake it comes with it's own instruction manual) but I'm sure I'll get a lot of use out of it! Never heard of one - here they are: http://www.mobywrap.com/

May 12 - My 30th birthday
When in the world did I get to be 30? That kind of snuck up on me! Time flies when you're having fun!!! I had to work but when I got home from work Ed took me out to the Texas Roadhouse. Garrett and I enjoyed a nice prime rib and some spare ribs. Yum! Before that though, Ed got me a camo camp chair that I wanted for the camper, and fire pie makers. I told y'all - I'm CAMPIN this summer. Come hell or high water - it's happening! My Mom, Dad and sister sent me a box full of birthday goodies as well - some big thick luxurious towels, the CUTEST little birdhouse, some more of my favorite Bearfoots figurines, etc... It was a great birthday! :)

Since I've been slacking, let me catch you up...

Wow - I didn't realize it had been so long since an update. I'm really sorry about that! Let me take some time to catch y'all up on what's been happening around here, though I don't know that you will find it all that entertaining.

Remodeling downstairs: Baby is great, I'm great, and Ed is awesome. I say that because he's been working his butt off at home so that I don't have to do the work. We decided to tear up the nasty old carpet that was in the nursery because Ed said I suck at painting. Well the nursery and hallway are connected so we had to tear up the carpet in the hallway as well. I was just fine with that because the carpet in the hallway was NASTY (water heater leak, previous tenant cat owners, etc...) and it was a dark gray color. Our house is beige and warm colors so the carpet just never really worked.

We went shopping for carpet and realized it was ridiculous to only replace the carpet in the nursery and hallway and not our bedroom - so we went ahead and decided to recarpet the entire downstairs level of the house. The nursery was already cleared out for painting, etc...but clearing out our bedroom was a chore! It's all tucked safe in the garage and now we're just waiting for the carpet to come in tomorrow!!! Ed has been having problems with his sinuses for awhile now, and after tearing up that carpet I think I know why. So I'm hoping that that issue will improve now!!!

Anyway, Not only did Ed paint the hallway and downstairs entry way, I told him to leave the baseboards for me. Nope - he painted those too. It caused his knee to act up on him (swelling, soreness, etc...) but he did it anyway. You have no idea what a stress reliever it was for me to not have to worry about that! He's awesome!!!

HOT!
While summer isn't officially here for a little while still - this week it has certainly warmed up in Southeastern Idaho. And the extra 30+ pounds I'm carrying around is not making the heat wave all that pleasant. Because our downstairs (and our bedroom) is torn up, Ed and I are sleeping in the guest room upstairs. I roasted for one night and didn't get much sleep. Ed spent the next day putting in the window air conditioners - including one in the guest bedroom! So...come visit us - not only do we have what I would consider a comfortable guest bed - now we provide you with your own a/c in that room. My Mom will be down for when Garrett is born - and I know she'll be happy with that little surprise! I can already feel our electricity bill rising - but I'm not really big on the whole sweating thing.

Swelling:
On Saturday while at work my shoes started to feel really tight. I took them off and found ten little bratwurst's hidden in my socks. Okay, really it was my toes - but they looked like sausages. They hurt the rest of the day and I couldn't bend them at all. I downed water like crazy but there really wasn't any way for me to put my feet up at work (uh...Dictaphone pedal goes on the floor). Ed offered to rub them for me when I got home but I didn't think that would feel so good. My hands swelled pretty good too - which made typing a little bit difficult. The next day (yesterday) I made sure to get up and walk a lot and I had so much water that I was walking to the potty every 30 minutes anyway. I also avoided sodium yesterday. Magically, the swelling went way down. Genius aren't I? Since I have a feeling this is going to continue, I guess I'd just better keep up with that regimen.

Braces:
I had an orthodontist appointment last week, and at the appointment prior to this one he had mentioned that we would most likely be taking these things off at the end of summer. I was JACKED! That means 2.5 years of braces - but they are worth it for the most part. Well, at this appointment he decided that they aren't coming off until sometime next year. My lower jaw has regressed (moved forward) and so now I'm dangerously close to having an underbite again. So maybe by February of 2009 but he said not to count on that either. I was really looking forward to having them off - but of course I want the most bang for my buck. So, if in another 5 years you see a picture of me and I still have my braces on - now you know why.

Childbirth Classes:
Well, we somehow managed to make it to our second childbirth class (we missed the first one). I thought it was pretty interesting - and actually kind of fun. The interesting thing is - they are geared 98% toward people having natural vaginal childbirth. Having already chosen a scheduled c-section a lot of the class didn't really apply to us. But, since I paid $30 for the classes, you had better believe that I asked plenty of questions! They showed how they do the incision for the c-section - and all I can say is OUCH! I asked why they don't just make the incision bigger instead of making it small and then tearing as the baby is pulled out - the nurse said it's because they want to simulate a natural birth. Screw that - cut me open! The part that I hated learning was that after they take the baby out, they don't do any of the cleanup or anything like that right there - they take him to a whole other floor. They sew me up and then I'm stuck in the recovery room. After about 2 HOURS they bring me the baby. 2 HOURS????? O.M.G. Thankfully Ed will be with him the whole time (I told him to leave me alone and follow the kid so he doesn't get mixed up with someone else's kid) but it breaks my heart to know that hsi first two hours of life will be with strangers. But I'll stop typing about that because I'm about to start crying. The nice thing about childbirth class though - they provide snacks! ROCK ON! I love me some snacks!

School:
The class that I'm in currently is a pretty interesting one, and not nearly as hard as the previous class. I am done with this class on June 1st! (two more weeks). I called the school and set up a leave of absence - so I am off of school from June 2nd to October 13th. Woohoo! :) My main concern was having to come back to work from maternity leave and starting school again, all at the same time. I should be back to work around the 10th of September and so it will be another month before I have to start taking classes too. What does stink is that because of financial aid I will have to take two classes at once when I come back. So it was nice knowing y'all but after the 13th of October you will not see me! :)

Work:
I am so thankful for the opportunity to work where I work. The people here are so supportive and just all around good people. Pretty much every day I hear, "Is it time YET?" I have been working to save up as much time as possible for maternity leave (sometimes working 60+ hour weeks) but I will not have enough to take the entire 12 weeks of maternity leave paid. I am not terribly worried about it though - because my co-workers are allowed to donate their time to me. I'm not counting on them doing that - but I think it's awesome that they would even consider it. So, if I don't get my whole 12 weeks paid, then we'll have to decide whether we can afford to go without my pay so I can take the whole 12 weeks, or I'll have to come back to work before that 12 weeks is up. Irregardless, I'm just glad that I can work extra and save up my time - that opportunity alone is a blessing (a tiring one though)! I don't sit still at work very well now - since G loves to get up into my ribs and mess around or he loves to mess with my sciatic nerve. But I do the best I can. I think I've worn a permanent trail in the carpet between my desk and the women's potty. I'm sure the housekeeping staff loves me for that!

OB Appointment:
Are you still with me? Hahaha - if you are bless you because you must be bored! I had an OB appointment on the 15th. G is doing great - his little heartbeat is just as strong as ever. He is still head down, but it's not like that really matters anyway. My fundal height is measuring a little bit small this week - but that's nothing to be concerned about. The c-section isn't scheduled yet but the nurse is supposed to call me this week to let me know when the OR has room for it. We asked for the 25th or 26th, so hopefully G will wait that long! :) I get one last ultrasound in about 2.5 weeks to make sure there still isn't any sign of fracture or other problems - then comes the big show!

Powell:
For those of you who know about the whole Powell transfer thing, the only update that I can give you is that we hope to know an answer by the end of this month. The Captain in Region 2 (where we'd be transferring to) opted to NOT open the Powell spot up to all of ISP - instead only choosing from those people who had put in for it (i.e. us and who knows who else). If we get it it looks like we're looking at a moving date of May 2009. Perfect! :) So it's still a matter of just waiting to see!

Well, I think that's about enough boring torture for everyone for today. I will post a belly picture sometime this week (I'm 34 weeks!) when I get Ed to take one. I will also make sure to post some pictures of the nursery! I'm more excited about that than any ol belly picture! Ciao!

32 weeks

Garrett will be evicted during the week of June 23rd, at about 39 weeks. We will actually schedule what day at my next OB appointment. My gestational diabetes numbers came back fine (I don't remember if I mentioned that). I have gotten to know the pleasure of working up in the middle of the night burping acid reflux kind of stuff. Now that is no fun. I get a lot of heartburn - but that's my own fault.

When I sleep I sleep nice and hard. The difficult thing is to stay asleep. Either a hip or shoulder starts hurting or I have to tinkle. The preggo dreams are a trip though.

I'm on day shift now and will be until I deliver baby. Ed is on days right now as well. We saved our "childbirth classes" until we could both be able to go to them. And as I started to type this, I realized that we missed our first one that we were supposed to go to tonight. Oh geez. I'm glad we paid for those damn things! Hopefully they will let us go to the other ones and not kick us out for being truant. Sheesh, how did we do that???

Anyway, that's my sad, boring and short update for now.

Peace in a simple forwarded email...

A baby asked God, 'They tell me you are sending me to earth tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so small and helpless?' God said, 'Your angel will be waiting for you and will take care of you.'
The child further inquired, 'But tell me, here in heaven I don't have to do anything but sing and smile to be happy.' God said, 'Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you. And you will feel your angel's love and be very happy.'
Again the child asked, 'And how am I going to be able to understand when people talk to me if I don't know the language?' God said, 'Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will teach you how to speak.'
'And what am I going to do when I want to talk to you?' God said, 'Your angel will place your hands together and will teach you how to pray.'
'Who will protect me?' God said, 'Your angel will defend you even if it means risking its life.'
'But I will always be sad because I will not see you anymore.' God said, 'Your angel will always talk to you about Me and will teach you the way to come back to Me, even though I will always be next to you.'
At that moment there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from Earth could be heard and the child hurriedly asked, 'God, if I am to leave now, please tell me my angel's name.'
God said, 'You will simply call her, 'Mom.'
