a little bit about what's here

Welcome to my brains dump station. Please don't feel obligated to read it but if you are here it's because you expressed an interest in being here or I just happen to think you're rad and want to include you in our life. Feel free to comment so that I know if anyone is reading! Not that it would stop me from blogging if no one did read, it's just nice to know who is around every once in awhile! I'll try to hit spell check before I post but I make no guarantee's! It's my blog and therefore you will find that I don't censor myself very often, especially when it comes to swear words (I'm working on it). If you don't like what I have to say, feel free to not read. I'm okay with that.

I love being a work from home mom to my one and only child, G. He is a dream that I never thought would come true. It's my goal in my life to raise him to be thoughtful, witty, respectful, gentle, sincere, creative, determined, instinctive, charming, frank, truculent, faithful, reflective, happy, active, bright, ambitious, talented, productive, decisive, kind hearted, friendly, proud, sarcastic, calm, righteous, generous, protective, dynamic, silly, adaptable, brave, honorable, gregarious, funny, fearless, outgoing, magnanimous, confident, cultured, fair and just plain amazing. It's not too tall an order, it's my life's work.

why women cry...

A little boy asked his mother, "Why are you crying?" "Because I'm a woman," she told him.

"I don't understand," he said. His Mom just hugged him and said, "And you never will."

Later the little boy asked his father, "Why does mother seem to cry for no reason?"

"All women cry for no reason," was all his dad could say.

The little boy grew up and became a man, still wondering why women cry.

Finally he put in a call to God. When God got on the phone, he asked, "God, why do women cry so easily?"

God said:

"When I made the woman she had to be special.

I made her shoulders strong enough to carry the weight of the world, yet gentle enough to give comfort.

I gave her an inner strength to endure childbirth and the rejection that many times comes from her children.

I gave her a hardness that allows her to keep going when everyone else gives up, and take care of her family through sickness and fatigue without complaining.

I gave her the sensitivity to love her children under any and all circumstances, even when her child has hurt her very badly.

I gave her strength to carry her husband through his faults and fashioned her from his rib to protect his heart.

I gave her wisdom to know that a good husband never hurts his wife, but sometimes tests her strengths and her resolve to stand beside him unfalteringly..

And finally, I gave her a tear to shed. This is hers exclusively to use whenever it is needed."

"You see my son," said God, "the beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair.

The beauty of a woman must be seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart - the place where love resides."

fishin!

Ed bought me a fishing pole for my birthday this year and ever since then I've been itching to get out and use it. Poor guy has a lot to teach me though - I feel bad for him! The area close to our house that we can fish in has restrictions on what kind of fish we can keep, but most importantly we can't keep anything under 14 inches. In the two times we've gone in the last two weeks I've caught lots of fish but none of them were big enough to keep unfortunately. But I'll keep trying!

Ed packs G in the Kelty pack, which is safer than me doing it (in Ed's mind anyway). Ed and G have fallen once, and I thought for sure that Ed broke his elbow, but he was able to pop it back into place. Ew! G got soaked but other than a little scrape on his ear - he came out unscathed. He likes the fishing but he'd like it even better if the skeeters and bee's would leave him alone! At one point, when I was wearing him in the Kelty and fishing from the bank, he even fell asleep in the Kelty. I have to admit that I find it relaxing and lovely!

taking care of business

Now that the house is sold and funded, we have some money to pay off some bills and take care of some stuff. We desperately needed new tires on the truck and the truck needed to be serviced. Between really good tires, an oil change and new filter, and something to do with rear and front differentials Ed managed to spend about $1400. OUCH! But it needed to be done. We also dropped the Jeep off so that the rear end can be fixed. We've missed not having it able to take out in the hills around here so it'll be nice when it's done - G loves riding in it! We also picked up a bunch of groceries and found that Target had lots of toys on clearance, so we managed to pick up some stuff for Christmas for G. I'm talking $25-$30 toys on clearance for $5-$6.

Our neighbors, Ron and Ruth, watched Siren and Taser all day while we were gone, since it was too warm to keep them in the garage all day. Good thing Ron and Ruth are dog people and good thing that all the dogs (they have 3) get along!

huckleberrying

I've already picked about a gallon of huckleberries down here! The first day I went out with just me, G, Siren and Taser. G fell asleep on the drive up there so when I got to where I was going I just left him asleep in the truck with the windows down and got an hour of picking in solitude. Ed was at work. Earlier this summer we'd gone up Parachute Hill Road to show my Mom the Rocky Point Lookout and we saw plenty of growing huckleberry bushes. The berries are huge and so so so sweet! Ed found another huckleberry spot up Beaver Ridge Road but they are a few weeks behind the res of the bushes we've seen.

Then Ed accompanied us and he chased after G while I picked to my hearts content. I could have picked a gallon that day except that there were some flies up there this time that were HORRIBLE. They looked like typical house flies...but they bite! OUCH! They swarmed all of us and we lasted for about 1.5 hours before we couldn't take the flies anymore!!!

I loves me some huckleberries!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

G's first trip to the E.R.

One of the drawbacks to where we live is that we are at least 45 minutes away from a medical professional. G broke out with a horrible diaper rash that we couldn't get rid of so on day #3 we had to go into town to get some different remedies that were suggested by family and friends. While we were in town we decided to just go to an Immediate Care while we were there. Too bad Missoula sucks in the Immediate Care (they call them Now Care) department and we ended up only being able to take G to the E.R. at Community. Never again. Our wait was ridiculous (think in excess of 4 hours) but the doctor we saw was very sweet. Have you ever tried to keep a 13 month old occupied for 2 hours while in an exam room with TWO OTHER PATIENTS? We ended up letting him mess with equipment in the hopes that it would spur the medical professionals along to get us out of there.

The doctor ended up deciding that the problem was that G had some kind of virus that was causing him to have extreme diahrrea (yeah, we knew that) and that we had to get rid of the diahrrea in order to give his bum some time to heal. He had been pooping about 10 times (or more) a day and we'd already figured this all out. When we were shopping we'd picked up some plain yogurt and pedialyte - which is G's new favorite thing. He'd never had juice before so the Pedialyte was a HUGE hit. Anyway, the changes we made in his diet helped slow down the diahrrea and G's diaper rash healed up fast!

The other day I got a "this is not a bill" notification of charges thing from the hosptial. $618.61. Oh yeah. $618.61 for DIAPER RASH. No wonder insurance premiums are so ridiculous. Our E.R. co-pay is $50 but we were willing to pay that to get a professionals opinion on G's poor bum, seeing as how we live an hour away.

our last actual "tie" to Pocatello

It's SOLD!!!!!!!!!!!! After a lot of negotiation and hurt feelings (on Ed's part mostly) the house is sold. Mom and Sarah came down to Powell to watch the dogs and, y'all will be proud of me, we also left G with them. Ed and I left at like 5 am Powell time and got into Pocatello at about noon. We went to the house and picked up the few remaining things, including the washer and dryer. We also went and got my final consult on my braces. It was nice to get that done! At 4 pm Pocatello time we went to Alliance and signed the house away. :) We stopped and had dinner at Mama Inez (my choice of course) and then went and said hi to Bri and Robert Rausch before leaving town. We used Bill Engvall on my iPod to keep us awake and we got home to Powell at about 1 am.

It was a LONG day but it would have been so much harder if we'd taken G too. Grandma, Aunty Sarah, and G had fun hanging out together even though G ended up breaking out in a terrible diaper rash while we were gone.

The house didn't "fund" (i.e. close through the bank) until the 30th of July. But that date has come and gone and the house is theirs. The people are Brandon and Tessa Johnston who wanted to move to Pocatello from Montpelier. Our closing agent at Alliance did tell us that the Johnstons were super excited to be getting our house and she said that they talked to her about how much they loved the house. I guess that makes me feel better.

I'll miss that house just because it's where we brought Garrett home, where we spent our first Christmas as a family, and where I last saw my Dad before he died. We have a lot of very special memories wrapped up in those walls, but now the Johnstons get to make their own memories while we make ours in Powell.

It's nice to have that monkey off our back and now maybe I can relax a little bit more about our choice to have me be a stay at home Mom to the Boof.
